MEDICO-LEGAL ASSESSMENTS

Medico-Legal assessments are detailed assessments that provide an independent medical opinion with regards to a person's physical abilities, work readiness and capabilities after an injury or illness.

The purpose of these assessments is:

***To gather information regarding the claimant’s pre-accident, current and likely future functional ability, through interviews, observations, collateral information, various assessment tasks and instruments, as well as reference to other experts’ opinions.

***To recommend and cost those professional interventions, assistive devices, pieces of equipment, environmental modifications and forms of human and financial assistance which may be necessary to allow the claimant to function optimally at home, at work and in leisure activities.

FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY EVALUATIONS

An FCE evaluates an individual's capacity to perform work activities related to his or her participation in employment. These evaluations are requested in order to establish the following: -

***The willingness of the employer to accommodate the member in a return-to-work programme in their own or suitable alternative positions within the company.

***Details of any obstacles preventing the member from successfully returning to work.

***To outline recommendations for return-to-work.

CASE MANAGEMENT SESSION

Case Management sessions are requested in order to improve the lives of the patients through individualized care that helps them achieve their personal goals. We do assessments, planning, facilitation, monitoring, evaluating and advocating for them. This is achieved through collaboration with the patient and other health care professionals involved in the patient's care.

Case management is afforded to support the patient's return to work, whether in an alternative occupation, reduced capacity or help them to return to 100% work capacity.
